Bands at Western Kentucky University
The Western Kentucky University Band program consists of long-time traditions of excellence in music performance and dedication to students. The Western Kentucky University Bands are comprised of both music majors and non-music majors. Western Kentucky University Bands include: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Bands, The Big Red Marching Band, and Basketball and Volleyball Pep Bands. The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band on campus, featuring approximately fifty of Western Kentucky University’s most elite woodwind, brass, and percussion performers. The Wind Ensemble performs literature of the highest musical merit, emphasizing works originally written for band and wind ensemble. The Wind Ensemble has performed on numerous occasions at the Kentucky Music Educators Association conference and at the Southern-Division College Band Directors Association conference. In 2006, the Wind Ensemble travelled to Russia to participate in the 60th annual “Victory Day†celebration and most recently presented seven concerts during a performance tour of Costa Rica in the summer of 2011. |
