David Maslanka's music for winds has become especially well known. Among his more than 130 works are forty pieces for wind ensemble, including seven symphonies, fifteen concertos, a Mass, and a multitude of chamber works. He was born in New Bedford, MA, attended the Oberlin Conservatory and studied composition with Joseph Wood. He studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and completed his doctorate at Michigan State University with his principal teacher, H. Owen Reed.
Scott Hagen serves as the Director of Bands at The University of Utah. He has been named University of Utah Teacher of the Year, was the conductor of the 2002 Utah Olympic Spirit Band and was the recipient of the Student's Choice Teaching Award in the College of Fine Arts.
Myroslava Hagen, clarinet soloist, is a native of Minnesota., Her principal teachers include Jerry Kirkbride, Jennifer Gerth, Burt Hara and Dr. Leigh Wakefield. Myroslava holds degrees from Concordia College (MN), The Univ. of Utah and Doctorate from Univ. of Arizona.
She has soloed with numerous orchestras and has given world premiere performances of compositions by David Checketts and David Maslanka. Myroslava is very active as an educator and clinician, maintaining a large private clarinet studio and is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Vandoren Regional Artist. |
