Im honored to present this CD consisting of music composed by my friend Greg Fritze. I first met Greg in 1995, when he was
commissioned by The U.S. Army Band Pershings Own to compose his Concertino for Euphonium and Band. A year or so
later Greg took a sabbatical from Berklee to study concert bands and music societies in Valencia, Spain. While there he invited
me to go to Valencia to perform his concertino. This was the beginning of many lifelong friendships in Spain. Over the next ten
years we traveled and performed in over 14 different cities, and towns throughout Spain. The idea of this music is to take some
time to relax and enjoy these reflective meditations. Additionally, the dances provide a joyful outlook that moves along as only
Greg can do. Of course, these meditations and dances would not be what they are without the musical playing by my friend and
pianist, Dr. Magdalena Adamek. We also decided to feature two additional pieces that Greg wrote for Naples Brass, from Naples,
Florida. These two pieces were originally written for our annual Christmas concert and were really fun to perform. I hope you
enjoy this CD and can appreciate all of the possibilities both lyrically, and technically the euphonium brings to music.
Bob Powers
It is a great privilege to compose for such a wonderful musician as Bob Powers. He is an exceptional euphonium player who has
the unique ability to bring the most out of every phrase of music. This, together with his complete mastery of the instrument,
always makes his performances very special. Bob and I have traveled to Spain many times over the years, including to a few of
the towns depicted on this CD. Thank you so much, Bob, for the opportunity to compose for you and your colleagues, and also
for recording this marvelous CD.
