ALBUM NOTES |
Ron Hufstader, Director of Bands and Lowell Graham, Chairman of the Music Department at University of Texas El Paso have long been a trend setter in producing musical collections from leading wind band composers. These recordings include discs from world renowned composers such as: Frank Ticheli, Julie Giroux (twice), David Holsinger, Roger Cichy, David R. Gillingham, and Andrew Boysen. This disc features the music of James Barnes.
James Barnes has twice received the coveted American Bandmasters Association Ostwald Award for outstanding contemporary wind band composition. He has been the recipient of numerous ASCAP Awards for composers, the Kappa Kappa Psi Distinguished Service to Music Medal, and the Bohumil Makovsky Award, no name a few.
His numerous publications for concert band and orchestra are extensively performed at Tanglewood, Boston Symphony Hall, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Barnes is also a frequent commissioned composer by all five of the major US Military ensembles in Washington, DC.
Ira Novoselsky from Bandworld writes: "Ron Hufstader and the UTEP Symphonic Winds provide the professional sounds that bring out the best."
Sound Carriers writes: "Cultivated and refreshing, Ron Hufstader places himself and his El Paso ensemble into the front row of American University ensembles. Concluding from the choice of the literature, one realizes immediately that here is a top conductor who is aware of direction-giving music for wind ensembles." |
