ALBUM NOTES
Recently, women composers have gained more attention, with scholarly works and popular media devoted to the lack of performances by these womens music. This is not solely an intellectual exercise or a feminist venture; by failing to program womens compositions, we miss the wealth of creativity, expertise, and emotion that emanates from these works. Conductors tend to program familiar pieces, and lesser-known works like those of women composers lack the wealth of recordings and performance histories that men composers enjoy. This project intends to help fill the recording void of women-created wind band music; by recording these pieces, we assist in creating more equal opportunities and increased prestige for these excellent women composers.

This project includes two pre-existing works with soloists: Ivette Herryman Rodriguezs piece Black montuno, and Catherine Likhutas piece Home Away from Home. Additionally, this recording features three world premieres: Andrea Venets This Prismosonic Rock I Stand, Holly Harrisons And Whether Pigs Have Wings (version for wind band), and Marie Douglas Concerto for Flute + Wind Ensemble.
