| ALBUM NOTES |
As the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Florida, it has been a true honor to record and collaborate with the extraordinary musicians featured on this album. This recording represents both the artistry and the spirit of our program-a legacy project that begins with my original composition "In the Swamp" and features entirely original compositions. The album was recorded at Pulp Arts in Gainesville, Florida, one of my favorite studios in the state and a creative home base for many of UF's most exciting musical projects.
What truly sets the UF Jazz Program apart, however, is the remarkable diversity of our students. As someone familiar with jazz programs across the country, I can say with confidence that it is rare to find a top-tier jazz ensemble in which nearly 80% of the musicians are also pursuing degrees outside of music. Our students balance rigorous musical training alongside studies in Astrophysics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Animal Science, Health Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, Economics, Architecture, Biological Engineering, and more- bringing a unique intellectual depth and creative perspective into every rehearsal and performance.
The University of Florida is also home to the innovative Music in Combination with an Outside Field degree path-affectionately known as "Why Not Both?" -which allows students to earn a Bachelor of Music while simultaneously pursuing a second bachelor's
degree in another discipline. This flexible and forward-thinking option empowers students to develop as elite musicians while preparing for diverse careers across industries.
At UF Jazz, we believe excellence in music thrives alongside curiosity, ambition, and interdisciplinary thinking. Our students don't have to choose between passion and possibility-they pursue both at the highest level. For talented jazz musicians looking for a jazz program that values creativity, academic excellence, and real-world preparation, the University of Florida Jazz Program is a place where these musicians can truly chart their own course.
