About the Wind Symphony
Under the direction of Dr. David Waybright, the Wind Symphony is the University of Florida's premier performing ensemble. The ensemble meets throughout the year and is comprised of 58 of the school's top undergraduate and graduate wind and percussion performers. The Wind Symphony is dedicated to performing advanced wind band literature and regularly participates in commissioning new works. In addition, the ensemble has released a number of audio CDs under the Mark Custom label and is scheduled to produce another commercially released recording during the upcoming spring semester. The Wind Symphony has performed at a variety of events throughout the country including the American Bandmasters Association, Music Educators National Convention, College Band Directors National Association, and Florida Music Educators Association conferences. Recently, the ensemble performed at the 2013 New York Wind Band Festival at Carnegie Hall and internationally at the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Singapore. The Wind Symphony offers flexible instrumentation and player rotation in order to provide members of the ensemble with a variety of challenges, responsibilities, and playing experiences. Membership in the ensemble is open to students of all degree programs and is selected by audition. www.ufbands.com
